Did you know? The phenomena of how clothing impacts our behavior, attitudes, personality, mood, confidence, and social interactions has been given a scientific name, known as "enclothed cognition".
Approximately a decade ago, the term "enclothed cognition" was created to explain how our clothes affect psychological processes such as emotions, self-assessment, attitudes, and interpersonal interactions.
In an initial study, researchers instructed participants to wear a lab coat and conducted a series of experiments. Participants who were informed that they were wearing a doctor's coat demonstrated improved performance on cognitive tests. Conversely, those who were told it was a painter's coat performed worse. Based on these results, the scientists concluded that clothing has a systematic influence on the psychological processes of the wearer.
There's a great article all about enclothed cognition at BrainFodder.org, written by Gauri Sarda-Joshi - Psychology of clothes: what you wear changes the way you think
3. Elegance in Length
Your uniform's length should match your height, like a tailor-made treatment. No tripping over hems or flashing too much leg. It's all about striking that balance for a sleek and professional look.
Beauty & Spa Uniforms NZ provides pants with options for both petite and tall lengths.
4. Waistband Bliss
Your waistband should be snug, not tight, offering support like a best friend. No one wants slipping or digging in while you're performing your magic. Keep that comfort level high and your spirits even higher.
Have you ever thought about why human butts evolved? It's not something we really think about, but scienctists have been.
The posterior region commonly referred to as the "butt" is primarily composed of fatty tissue, situated atop the gluteal muscles which are connected to the pelvic bone. In essence, the configuration of our pelvic bone determines the contour of our buttocks, and this skeletal structure has undergone significant transformations over the past six million years or so.
Observing the animal kingdom, it's apparent that even our nearest living great ape relatives, such as chimpanzees, bonobos, and gorillas, lack the comparatively large buttocks that humans possess. This is largely due to our distinct mode of movement. As the only current bipedal mammals, our shift to upright locomotion has resulted in significant changes to our posterior anatomy.
Darcy Shapiro, an Evolutionary Anthropology at Rutgers University has done some thinking around this. She wrote a great article called "How did human butts evolve to look that way?" - it's a facinating read if you want to know more.
5. Sleeves: Long & Short
Whether you're rocking long or short sleeves, the key is the fit. Long sleeves should snugly hug your wrist, no excess fabric flapping around. Short sleeves? Comfortably cool around your upper arms, not too tight, not too loose.
6. Neckline Elegance
Don't let your neckline steal the show. It should be comfy, not too tight or too loose. No one wants a neckline that's trying to be a scarf. Stay elegant, not suffocated.
7. Shoulder Swagger
Your shoulders deserve love too! Your uniform should embrace them snugly, no gaps or fabric overload. Move freely without fuss, because you're here to shine, not to adjust.
8. Breathable Bliss
Your fabric should be your partner in comfort. Lightweight, stretchy, and breathable – just like a spa day for your skin. Say goodbye to feeling weighed down or overheated.
